RECRUITMENT MANAGER

Maryknoll Lay Missioners (MKLM) is seeking a Recruitment Manager to be a part of a team dedicated to recruiting, admitting and preparing women and men to serve as overseas lay missionaries. MKLM is a Catholic organization inspired by the mission of Jesus to live and work with poor communities in Africa, Asia and the Americas, responding to basic needs and helping to create a more just and compassionate world. Our missions are focused on the areas of education, health, justice and peace, pastoral care and sustainable development. We have sent over 600 people overseas since 1974 and currently we have over 50 women and men, single and married, with and without children, each serving the poor for a minimum of 3 ½ years and many serving for over 10 years. Our annual recruitment goal is a diverse class of 15 or more missioners.

Location: Ossining, New York.

Principal duties:

Reporting to the Director of the Mission Services Department, the Recruitment Manager has the responsibility to:

1. Coordinate & conduct recruitment work, including:

a) Design and implement an annual recruitment strategic plan and budget;

b) Encourage qualified individuals to submit applications through personal, phone and e-mail follow-up;

c) Manage data relevant to recruitment in the organization’s database, track status of inquiries, and design relevant queries for analysis and communication;

d) Prioritize and maintain contacts with MKLM alumni, Maryknoll partners, diocesan offices, social justice organizations, universities, organizations of culturally diverse constituencies, selected parishes and others;

e) Create and update recruitment materials;

f) Utilize social networking platforms, MKLM website and other media applications to expand reach of recruitment efforts;

g) Plan and implement informational sessions, discernment opportunities and other recruitment events in Ossining and in other U.S. locations;

h) Network with other mission and volunteer organizations for the purpose of expanding recruitment outreach and making referrals;

i) Collaborate with other Maryknoll entities in joint recruitment activities;

j) Represent MKLM at public events;

k) Promote diversity efforts of the organization, particularly in the context of recruitment of new missioners;

l) Motivate and assist others to promote the opportunity of overseas mission work with MKLM.

2. Work closely with the Director of Communications & Marketing to develop communication instruments for the purpose of recruitment.

3. Coordinate with Managers of Alumni and US Church Relations to engage alumni in recruitment efforts and to capitalize on church talks as further opportunities for recruitment;

4. Assist the Admissions Manager during high admissions season in reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and assessing applicants’ suitability for MKLM (interview training available);

5. Assist the Programs Manager in the implementation of programs for missioners, including our Orientation, Mission Integration, Recommitment /Renewal, and MKLM International Service Orientation programs.

SKILLS:

a) Excellent communication and networking skills;

b) Strong interpersonal, interviewing, leadership and coordinating skills;

c) Willing and able to promote the mission and vision of MKLM;

d) Ability to coach individuals regarding their ability to thrive in overseas mission with MKLM;

e) Strong technical and creative skills in web-based communications, including social networking;

f) Capable of leading the drafting & implementation of the annual plan for recruitment;

g) Team player, but able to independently accomplish tasks & take initiative;

h) Ability to publicly represent the organization, including speaking with individuals, small groups, large groups, parishes, volunteer fairs, and other public events;

i) Organized and capable of managing many relationships and tasks at once;

j) Ability to travel within the U.S. on multiple-day recruitment trips, including some weekends;

k) Work well under the pressure of time limits when necessary;

l) PC literate with experience in Microsoft Office and the Internet, as well as experience in or willingness to become proficient in database management.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

1. Experience in overseas mission or volunteer service in a multi-cultural environment.

2. Active practice of the Catholic faith with an understanding of the contemporary Catholic church and Catholic social teachings; knowledge of the structure of the U.S. Catholic Church and the ability to work within its culture.

3. Bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science, human resources, management or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience.

4. Understanding of the multi-faceted media of social networking and ability to utilize them for recruitment.

5. Proven ability to coordinate, collaborate, and engage a diverse community and population.

6. Experience in event planning, group facilitation, and training.

7. Experience in drafting strategic plans and budgets a plus.

8. Experience in interviewing and assessment a plus.

9. Knowledge of nonprofit or faith-based organizations a plus.
